Our Commodore: Des Fairbanks

Des started sailing Fireballs off Durban harbour and moved to radio after battling to find a regular crew. Moving to Pietermaritzburg, he was a founder member of the Maritzburg Radio Sailing Club.

He is a past South African Champion and has competed in a number of “Worlds”. He is internationally recognised, and has served as a member of both the International committee governing radio sailing rules and technical committee before serving one term as Vice Chairman and one term as Chairman of the International Radio Sailing Association.

We are very fortunate to have his knowledge, organisational skills and his enthusiasm for Radio Sailing.
